How to Verify your Google Business Profile

Google may ask you to verify with a short video to prove you run a legitimate business and are authorized to manage its account. Only the business owner (or someone at the business's physical location) can verify its profile.

We can guide you through the steps, but we'll need your help to complete the verification process.

Why GBP Verification Matters

  • You can still show up in search results even if you’re not currently verified, but only if your profile was previously verified.
  • You can't make changes to your GBP unless it's verified.
  • New GBP profiles don't show up until they're verified.
  • If you need to update your profile and it triggers the re-verification process, any edits you made won't display until the process is complete.

Recording Tips (Do This First)

  • Turn off Wi-Fi and use mobile data so Google can confirm your location as you walk around and shoot the video
  • Keep the video under 60-90 seconds to avoid upload or processing issues
  • Make sure your business name and details match exactly what’s in your profile
  • If you’re unsure about the video, delete it and re-record before submitting

What to Show in the Video

  1. Your Location
    • Show street signs, nearby landmarks, or anything that proves where you are
    • Avoid empty lots or generic spaces; Google wants proof of a real business or landmark
  2. Your Business Exists
    • Show your storefront, sign, branded vehicle, uniforms, equipment, or paperwork
    • If you have signage, make sure it matches your business name exactly
  3. You Manage the Business
    • Record yourself unlocking the door, opening your workspace, or accessing a private area

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Prep Your Info
    • Fill out everything under “Edit profile,” including the “More” sections like service options, amenities, and business description
    • Choose the correct primary category and any additional ones that accurately describe your business
  2. Record the Video
    • Use your phone
    • Open the Google Business app and tap:
    • Get Verified > Capture Video
    • Grant access to your camera, mic, and location
    • Record your video following the tips above
    • Tap Stop Recording > Upload Video
  3. Wait for Review
    • Google usually responds within 5 business days
    • If accepted, your profile becomes verified
    • If rejected, Google will tell you why; you can re-record and try again.
  4. Optional: Delete Your Video
    • Go to your Business Profile
    • Tap More > Advanced settings > Video uploads > Delete videos
    • If you don’t delete it, Google will eventually remove it

What If the Video Verification Fails?

If your upload fails or gets rejected:

  • Try again and re-record a clean, complete version.
  • Keep it short, clear, and only include what’s needed with no extra commentary.
  • If your video fails too many times, Google may remove the video option entirely. At that point, you’ll need to contact Google Support and request a live video call with a rep via Google Meet.
