Troubleshooting Google Business Profile Suspensions and Edit Denials

Google is strict when it comes to protecting its platform from fake listings, spam, and inaccurate info. But that means legit businesses sometimes get caught in the filter, especially when making edits or updates. Here's how to handle it.

Common reasons for a suspension

  • Editing key info after verification (name, address, category, etc.)
  • Using a PO Box, UPS Store, or virtual address (which violates guidelines)
  • Listing your business as a storefront when it should be service-area based, or vice versa
  • Inconsistent or mismatched NAP info (Name, Address, Phone) across the web
  • Spammy business name (stuffing keywords like “Fence Company Best Naples FL”)
  • Using a shared location with multiple unrelated businesses
  • Violating content guidelines (posting banned services, offensive content, etc.)

Common reasons edits get denied

  • Google can’t verify the info (especially name or address changes)
  • The new info conflicts with what’s on your website or other online listings
  • Changes are too frequent or too drastic
  • System errors or bugs

When to Escalate to Google Support

  • Your profile is suspended and you don’t know why
  • You submitted verification documents and haven’t heard back in over a week You’ve made valid edits and they keep getting denied without explanation
  • You're stuck in verification limbo
  • Your profile gets stuck in a “Pending” or “Processing” state for more than 7 days
